| environmentally friendly aqueous based agar feedstock that offers the ability to produce large, thick parts of complex geometry at low cost. As a result, near net shape and net shape components of a size more typically associated with investment casting are now possible using MIM. Therefore, many of the design and material flexibilities offered by MIM can now be applied to a new larger class of components.
PowderFlo® technology minimizes the cost of MIM manufacturing in two ways. First, due to the nature of the agar binder, a single sintering cycle replaces the traditional MIM debind and sintering process. This reduces equipment cost, process footprint, and cycle time. Second, Latitude's proprietary "in-line compounding" process eliminates expensive twin screw or sigma mixer compounding steps associated with traditional MIM. This minimizes material costs and allows the flexibility to tune flow properties and sintering shrinkage on line thereby maximizing yield.
